Red Line - Laughter Intensity vs. Time
Laughter intensity is measured by taking the time between contractions of the diaphragm (in seconds) and multiplying by the volume (in decibels) of the sound between contractions

Raw data:
  • Local Maximum A - the second utterance of the words “A mustard pie!” in the sketch “My Sandwich, My Sandwich”
  • Local Maximum B - the utterance of the character name “Rigby” in the improvisation segment
  • Local Maximum C - the Joketron 3.0 “heckler-repellant” demonstration
  • Local Maximum D - the facial expression on scientist Brendan Gardiner’s face as he “gets it” in the sketch “Wake”
  • Global Maximum E - as expected, scientist Brumm’s execution of the quick compilation of the evening’s peak responses

Green Line - Skin Temperature vs. Time

Note the correlation between laughter intensity and skin temperature. There is a time lag, but the laugher definitely increases the skin temperature as a result of increased blood flow and metabolism rate.

Blue Line - Brain Serotonin/Melatonin Levels vs. Time

As expected, overall serotonin/melatonin levels in the brain increase throughout the duration of the focus group, and we can project that they continue to increase, or at least remain at an elevated level for some time (5-minutes to 1 hour) after the end of the session. A warm, cozy feeling and ease of sleeping are pleasant side effects.
